Every word on V Leigh’s blog feature is seemingly a deft stroke of a pen held by an artist’s hand. Xlibris is grateful to one of its gifted wordsmiths for sharing her sheer love of writing here on the Xlibris Blog.
Using her God-given gifts to write ‘Precocious’
During the course of living my life, situations have presented themselves granting me a myriad of opportunities to put my God-given gifts to work to benefit others, whether it was writing a letter of recommendation for a colleague, or drawing up a proposal for a neighborhood 501-C3 block grant via a grassroots community activist coalition which I founded, or writing something which directly benefited me and my beloved spouse of going on soon to be 35 years of marriage, such as my manuscript, and recently my published book, Precocious.
It is also my sincerest desire to dish up some of “CC’s” meat of the matter story, along with a healthy portion of the “good news Gospel,” to others who may be erroneously suffering in silence from all too often, swept under the rug, self-mitigating shame.
More than one of my readers have said what a “big book” it is, but clearly they do not understand that I felt I owed at least that much to my mother and her maternal side of our family. In my candid opinion, their stories deserved to be told, from the perception of the feminine mystique in her direct blood line.
Considering the fact that no known photo exists of my full blooded Cherokee great, great grandmother, but there are a couple of images in existence of her husband, my great, great grandfather, who dug graves for the Union Army in North Carolina, prior to relocating his family to Alabama, proves what a good ole Yankee, patriarchal, chauvinistic sexist society we live in; one in which we are blinded to half of what our DNA actually looked like in a given point of time.
In spite of the many personal challenges facing me on a daily basis, I am eternally grateful to have been born on America’s shores. I am grateful to have sprung from such a diverse, strong people, the human race: African, Native American, and diverse European, including some Jewish stock, all determined survivors who passed down a lineage now flowing through my veins as I serve as a living vessel, a portal through which the life force from above has allowed me to give life to five other human beings on planet earth, three of whom have survived and procreated two each, respective offspring thus far.
I thank God that my three surviving progeny are each a contributing member of society. I praise God that each of my three living offspring between at least graduated from high school. I exault God for, and commend the one who recently marched and received a MBA. It is this one mother’s prayer, that God will lead each of my three progenitors to reach the pinnacle in their lives, He has so divinely predestined. I take delight in the Lord for the intrinsic nature He prudently instilled within each of them, an entrepreneurial spirit, which spurs them on to pursue personal ownership of their own enterprise.
As their loving mother, it was my distinct duty to set the bar by receiving at least an Associate of Science in Nursing Degree, 37 years ago…of course I do realize, “College isn’t for everyone.”
I do know one thing for sure; life can be such an amazing enigma.
I can barely wait to see what else it has in store for me, while trusting in the One Who holds every universe in the palm of His mighty hand.
How about you?
